Program Overview
The “Pass It On” (PIO) Outdoor Mentoring program is designed to promote the enjoyment, understanding, protection and restoration of our natural ecosystems. Our youth will learn conservation ethic from a caring adult who will mentor them in their outdoor activities.
Pass It On activities may include:
- Camping and camp preparation
- Hiking
- Plant collections and analysis
- Fishing and related instructions
- Fire starting
- Food Preparation
- Hunter Education
- Hunting and related instruction
- Orienteering
- Other outdoor activities and hobbies
Strategy:
To create an effective
outdoor program, Pass It On will partner with other outdoor
organizations to maximize our combined resources for the benefit
of the children and families we serve. By partnering with
groups like Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation, Texas DIVAs, Quail Forever, National Wild Turkey
Federation, Dallas Safari Club, etc. we can provide outstanding
programs and assure that a new generation of children get introduced
to nature in a safe manner.
All activities conducted
under this program will utilize the highest level of training
to insure thatsafety is the number one concern. The program
requires training in Hunter Education for everyone that participates
in hunting activities and will try to place kids in other shooting
programs that have outstanding safety records if their interest
is in the sport shooting arena.
Activities organized
through this program will be supervised so that mentors with
little or no experience can share in the training available
and enjoy traditional outdoor activities with the children they
mentor. Through this process we expect not only to instill
a love of the outdoors in our kids but heop them lead a healther
lifestyle, since childhood obisity is a growing problem in this
country.
